Hello! I’m Andrew Hey, MA LPCC—a licensed therapist and professional actor who believes the relationship is what makes therapy work.
I’ve spent over a decade working with smart, thoughtful, emotionally intelligent adults navigating identity, confidence, and belonging. My style is informal, laid-back, and nonjudgmental. I’m genuine, approachable, and real. I refuse to be the cold, clinical therapist. It’s not my style. Therapy can be as fun and funny as it is deep and moving.
MY BACKGROUND
My path to becoming a therapist has been unique. I started college thinking I’d become a doctor and got into medical school. But I quickly realized I preferred psychology to physiology. After a year, I left medical school, not knowing what was next.
What I did know: I’d been performing in theater since I was a kid, and it had always been where I felt most alive and connected to people. I auditioned for a professional show, got cast, and started acting full time while going to graduate school for counseling.
Acting taught me things that made me a better therapist—how to be present and attuned, how to listen deeply, how to communicate clearly and creatively, and how to help people explore who they actually are versus the roles they’ve been playing. That tension between performance and authenticity is exactly what many of my clients are navigating.
HOW I WORK & WHAT TO EXPECT
When working with me, I work hard to build authentic, trusting relationships with my clients because relationships are the magic of how therapy works. The therapeutic relationship is the one place where you don’t have to worry about taking up too much space or managing anyone else’s needs. You can express yourself fully, and that’s how you figure out who you actually are.
I use a strengths-based approach—we’ll work through challenges by leaning on what you do well. I see strengths and weaknesses as often two sides of the same coin. Anxiety often comes with being motivated, hardworking, and detail-oriented. I help you leverage what makes you unique rather than trying to eliminate parts of yourself. I blend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client Centered Therapy (CCT), Family Systems, and Solution-Focused therapy, so you’ll get both insight into your patterns and practical tools for change.
I always include self-esteem and identity work in treatment because clarifying your values and identity is the path to lasting confidence. I also love helping people identify their purpose, passion, or meaning—those things give life direction and satisfaction in a way that is more long lasting than positive self-talk alone.
I’m a good fit for people who are nervous about therapy or new to the process. I make people feel comfortable quickly. I’m warm and encouraging, and I’ll be honest when honesty is helpful. I can hold space for really hard things, but I can also be upbeat and funny. Therapy with me is directive when you need direction and exploratory when you need space.
Managing mental health is tough, but worth it. You don’t have to manage alone. Through the relationship we build, you’ll develop insight about yourself and the confidence to act on it. You’ll figure out who you are beyond the roles you’ve been playing—and you’ll build the life that actually fits you.
You deserve to feel good. I look forward to meeting you!
